The Princess & The Togs

from Pākā Bay by Bulli Point

lyrics

There once was a princess who hated to swim
Every time the court asked her she refused with every whim
They just couldn't get her to backstroke
'til one day she tried it and in love with it fell

She swam for a century, she never came ashore
She would swim out for miles where nobody saw
That she'd lay and she'd think, of all kinds of things
And on some occasions, she would even sing

Then sailors came by, and soon they heard her voice
Cross the deep blue calm water, it's sound was quite choice
But it caught up the captain, and the ship it did crash
Leaving one man alive just, floating like an ass

She swam for a century, she never came ashore
She would swim out for miles where nobody saw
That she'd lay and she'd think, of all kinds of things
And on some occasions, she would even sing

The lad he got home, and a rumour he spread
Of a half fish half human, who's voice was like bread
Delicious but dangerous, in large amounts
When the princess got word, she started to shout

See this is the tale of mermaids and more
Of legends and stories that you've heard before
The Princess was Merrilyn, and as she had fame
So the sea creatures, took on her name
